I have had mine for 11 years and never cleaned for oiled. Still work like the day I bought them. Cutters are beginning to not cut braid cleanly so I will replace them this winter. There is no side flex to these pliers so they work great when prying hooks out of larger fish like bluefin.

Anywhere you find salt water fly fishermen (both guides and anglers) at the top of the sport they will often times have the 6" Van Staal Titanium pliers on their hip. THERE IS JUST NO EQUAL. Yes they are expensive, so are MAKO reels and LOOMIS rods. I returned last night from Tarpon fishing in Islamorada. What was on the hip of literally every professional guide in last week's Fly rod Tarpon Tournament? You guessed it, Van Staal Titanium Pliers.
